ALGAE UNVEILED /
BLACK ALGAE
2025
Valentinaki’s outdoor freestanding installation Black Algae for Algae Unveiled transforms public space into an immersive reflection on the vital role of algae in marine ecosystems. Standing three meters high, the sculptural work captures the organic forms, textures, and fluid movements of algae, bringing the invisible forces of aquatic life into tangible, monumental scale.
Presented during Fuorisalone 2025 in Milan, the installation engaged viewers in a dialogue between nature, architecture, and urban space. Its presence in a public environment emphasized both the beauty and fragility of algae, while raising awareness of the environmental pressures—such as pollution and eutrophication—that threaten these essential organisms.
Through scale, form, and material, Valentinaki’s installation invites the audience to move around and through the work, creating a sensory experience that mirrors the rhythms and resilience of the natural world, turning an ecological challenge into a poetic and visually compelling encounter.
